Passed away on July 12, 2019, at the age of 90 years, Joseph Rouleau agreed last year to be the patron of our 100th anniversary celebrations. A man of music and also of words, he came to all our concerts with enthusiasm, and his mere presence invited us to surpass ourselves. An exceptional educator, he was also a generous and benevolent patron.
A captivating venue, a large-scale work; a crowd gathered for this Messe solonnelle presented on February 22 this year in tribute to Joseph Rouleau.
The Messe solennelle
Composed in 1900 by Louis Vierne, master of the great organs of Notre-Dame de Paris from 1900 to 1937, this Messe solonnelle is a veritable musical treasure. Rarely performed in our churches because it requires two organs, this magnificent mass brought together organists Julien Girard and Jonathan Oldengarm under the direction of Xavier Brossard-Ménard.
